Beaming With Pride

By Executive Director Gail T. Brown, CRC, LRC, LCSW

It is with great pride and gratitude for our compassionate and dedicated staff that I share the impressive results of our recent Licensing and Certification review conducted by the DDS Office of Quality Enhancement.  We were, once again awarded a two-year license for all of our day and residential programs and the results were outstanding!  Our Residential Services and In- home Supports received a rating of 99%  for licensing standards and 86% for certification standards and our CBDS and Employment Services received 100% for licensing standards and 93% for certification standards!  These results clearly demonstrate NEV’s commitment to person-centered and quality services and they could not have been achieved without the dedication provided by our competent, professional, trained and caring staff.  Particularly noteworthy in this review was the DDS team’s recognition of our efforts to ensure that person-centered choices and activities are imbedded in all aspects of each individual’s supports and that their activity levels reflect their individual interests, and opportunities for community integration are expanded.  The team also commended us for our increased efforts to obtain competitive employment for individuals and for assisting individuals with securing positions in which they earn competitive wages in jobs that reflect their interests. Please join me in congratulating all NEV employees on these significant achievements and in expressing our appreciation for all they have done to make this happen!  We continue to enhance our services with positive results that improve the lives of the individuals that we are privileged to support, and helping people to realize their potential and live dignified, meaningful and quality lives in the community.

At NEV, we know that these outstanding and remarkable results would not have been possible without the talent and dedication of our hardworking direct support professional staff, managers, specialists, facility and administrative personnel.  September 10 – 16, 2017 has been declared, “Direct Support Professionals Week” both nationally and in Massachusetts.  It is fitting that we pause and recognize NEV’s Direct Support Professionals and the vital role all of these employees play in supporting and enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities. Please join me in paying tribute and saying thank you to our valued DSPs for the incredible work they do each and every day to truly make a difference in the lives of the individuals they serve.  Thanks to all of their efforts, we are listening to what people want, creating plans with the people we support, building meaningful friendships and relationships, ensuring that people have choice and control over their lives and are treated with respect and dignity. I invite you to take a moment with me during Direct Support Professionals Week to applaud and thank our DSPs!

Hope to see you at Family Day on Sunday, September 17, 2017 as we welcome family and friends to NEV and celebrate our 45th anniversary!
